Pothos care: Water, light and long vines

Pothos tolerates short dry periods. Permanently wet soil is one of its most common care problems.
Water without choosing a fixed weekday
Wait until the top layer of soil has dried. Slightly drooping leaves can be a late sign of thirst and usually lift again after watering. Yellow leaves in damp soil, on the other hand, are more likely to indicate excess water than drought.
Light and variegation
Pothos tolerates a wide range of positions. Variegated cultivars often lose some of their pale markings in dark corners. Bright indirect light encourages more compact growth, while intense direct sun can damage the leaves.
Long or bare vines
Increasing gaps between leaves often point to insufficient light. Pruning encourages branching, and healthy stem sections can be rooted as cuttings in water or a loose substrate.
